Gulzar Saheb has won the award for the song Jai Ho. He wrote the lyrics of the song while A R Rahman composed the music and Sukhwinder Singh sung it.
Gulzar Saheb is regarded by many as probably Hindi cinema's best lyricist till date and he has penned lyrics for many Bollywood films for the last four decades. He began his film career as an assistant to Bimal Roy. He also worked with Hrishikesh Mukherjee in the beginning of his career. After getting recognition as a sensitive lyricist, he started writing scripts and stories for films. Then with Mere Apne in 1971, he turned Director. Since then he has given us lots of beautiful, serious and funny moments through his movies. He has written stories for around 60 films and directed 17 movies, each one a masterpiece. Although films gave him a mass recognition, Poetry always remained his first love.
Gulzar Saheb has already won many awards in India (including 11 Filmfare awards) but this is the first time that his talent has been internationally recognized at the Oscars for the Song "Jai Ho" of Slumdog Millionaire.
Great going Gulzar Saheb and great going Slumdog Millionaire.
