Frankly I've never really subscribed to these adjectives tagging me as an 'icon', 'superstar', etc. I've always thought of myself as an actor doing his job to the best of his ability.
Basically I am just another actor who loves his work and this thing about age only exists in the media.
ON FILMS...
The death scene in 'Deewar' was never written. Once I started speaking, the words just flowed.
One cannot achieve success with every film. Audiences can be unpredictable. The failure could be due to a bad script or characterization. All this is a part of the learning process.
Most of the time directors reject my inputs. And happily those films have done well.
This media is such that when you are working with your set of people, they tell you, why don't you work with new people, and if you do that, they say, Hey, what's happened to your old ones.
MY IDEA OF LIVING LIFE...
I just lead my life as naturally, as normally as I possibly can. But I can't help it if controversy is hounding me day in and day out. I'm quite amazed sometimes by the way they go about it. I grow a beard and it lands up in the editorial in The Times of India.
You want to talk about the fading of an icon? You never said I was an icon in the first place. But you want to talk about it in a derogatory fashion. You say the superstar has fallen. But you've never called me a superstar ever. It's only that you use these words when you want to say something derogatory.
No one can go through life without their share of knocks. I am no different from any other.
