Will Blue save Akshay Kumar?

After the spate of flops Akshay Kumar has suffered this year, will Sri Ashtavinayak’s Blue be the saving grace for Akki at the BO?

With back to back flops, Akshay is faced with the same fate Salman Khan had before Wanted. Akki's films this year- Chandni Chowk to China, 8 * 10 Tasveer and Jumbo, for which he gave a voice-over, did miserably at the box office. Kambakkht Ishq, which had a great opening, was critically panned and couldn’t make up any profits from the second week onwards. CC2C which was probably the most hyped and expensive film had the worst fate from the three with director Nikhil Advani suffering yet another multi-budgeted dud. Tasveer on the other hand came and went without a whiff in the air and Jumbo which was targeted for the children too didn’t stand a chance.

With Tasveer, its still a case of sour grapes as Percept who produced the film have been on a public dissing rampage against Akki. Head of Percept, Shailendra Singh recently said in an interview that Akshay was nothing compared to Shah Rukh and Salman and was just talk. He even went on to say that Akshay has no fans and its just media created. Source from Percept said, “Percept is still furious with Akshay as after Tasveer flopped, Akshay rather than defending the film went on saying that films such as Tasveer that have no song and dance and no typical Akshay masala usually don’t work for him. He also rejected the offer of starring in Priyadarshan’s horror flick Grrr, which is being made under the Percept Horrortainment banner.”

Which bring us to Blue; the film which has been made on a multi-crore budget and has Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan in the leads and has been termed as the next action blockbuster. The music by Rahman has already topped the charts but somewhere critics are still worried about the film’s fate. Director Anthony D’souza is a debutant and while he has shot some breathtaking underwater locales, there is apprehension concerning the plot and storyline of the film. Along with Akki, the others too have their hopes pinned on the flick as it could mark their comeback as well.

Let’s wait and watch whether or not Akshay has the same fate of Salman who braved through four flops to be the next most wanted actor in B-town. If Akki manages to sit atop that mantle after Blue, now that would be something indeed!
