One is a Vinay Pathak film simply titled
SRK, and the other is Makrand Deshpande’s
Shah Rukh Bola Tu Khoobsurat Hai.
The fortune of these small films could change if SRK himself promoted these films. Had it been
Aamir or
Amitabh, we think the films would have been aggressively promoted. However,
Shah Rukh Bola Tu Khoobsurat Hai recently had its premiere at the International Film Festival of India in Goa on November 27, 2009.
On the occasion, Makrand spoke about his little film, “
Shah Rukh Bola Tu Khoobsurat Hai is about a young girl who sells flowers on the road. One day, a car stops by next to her and she hears a voice that says - 'You are beautiful'. That voice comes from none other than superstar Shah Rukh Khan. What happens to her after that experience is what the film talks about."
Why a film on SRK without SRK in it? - we asked. “That would take away from the nature of the film. The whole cast comprises of theatre actors, and the young flower-selling girl is played by Ritika. I am in the film too, in a small role and, yes, Shah Rukh also makes an appearance in the film," says Makrand.
He adds, “My film is a look at how a fine actor like Shah Rukh Khan came up from being a hero to a superstar, whose small gesture can change the life of an ordinary person.”
Makrand hopes to release the film in cinemas early next year and admits that SRK’s name will help promote the film in the coming days, with a buzz from Goa.
"At least till the marketing and publicity stage, his name will mean a lot to the project. After that, it will work on its own merit," he concluded.
