The ‘young boy’ director (he’s only 26) who Ranbir has rechristened ‘India’s Woody Allen,’ hopes the world will wake up to his film. He talks about his baby and the chemistry between his unusual co-stars.
Wake Up Sid is autobiographical.
'Wake Up Sid! is about a time in my life when I didn’t have a goal. I didn’t know what I was going to do but I was so young that I didn’t care. Everything was fun and fresh and that is what I have shown in my film. At that time I just wanted to chill, party, be with my friends and have fun,' says Ayan.
He is all praise for the actor who plays his protagonist. The bright director says, 'Ranbir Kapoor is brilliant and so talented. He is here to stay. We used to gym together and we are friends, even beyond the movie. I can’t think anyone could have essayed this role better than him.'
Konkona has no airs and is easy to be with. 'I met Konkona through a friend a few years ago when she was doing
Page 3. We got along well and she agreed to do the script immediately after she read it. She is very patient and never complained in spite of the number of retakes I insisted on. She is an enchanting actress and beautiful in her own unique way.'
The unusual pairing of Konkona and Ranbir is something that everyone is talking about and is curious to see. 'Ranbir and Konkona make an unusual couple but that was required and I am glad I got two such talented yet different actors. Ranbir’s Sid is just out of college and Konkona’s Aisha is three years older than him. He is a quintessential spoilt brat, yet he’s nice. She is grounded, determined, and earnest and wants to establish herself as a writer. They both are opposites and the film has some twists when they become friends.'
