Vivek Oberoi: I’ve done some real crazy stuff

Looking forward to the release of his filmPrince, Vivek Oberoi is all smiles. Vivek is quite excited with his film, which has him playing the solo lead (after a long gap) and doing a whole lot of action.

But it wasn’t as easy as it looks on screen. The director of the film, Kookie Gulati, says the actor went through some real intensive training for six months before he even shot one frame for Prince.

“He did everything! From skate boarding to parkour to street fighting to kicks and fights and cable training and bike training… His training schedule was like 10-12 hours a day. He would start early morning. For about two hours, he would go skate boarding, then he would do his stretches and kicks, then some other stuff. It just went on and on. We had hired these trainers from London and the other from Thailand to actually train him correctly,” says Kookie.

We caught up with Vivek Oberoi to find out how many bruises or broken bones he had to deal with before the filming of Prince was complete!

“Surprisingly, not one! And, I think, for that, I need to thank my friend Alan Amin, who is a great action director. He took care of me throughout the making of the film. I can’t believe some of the stuff I have done in this film, and I’ve come out unscathed! Hanging from a chopper at, like, seven eight thousand feet with, like, hand untethered on an upside-down car, doing action in a real river rapid – so, I’ve done some real crazy stuff,” he says with a smile.

Speaking about his lead hero, the debutant director Kookie Gulati says, “The character that he plays needed to be really swift. And so, the physicality of it was very important and how he carries it out… you know, the body language had to be perfect, and to make it look convincing that he can knock 6 people down in a few seconds…And, for that reason, he took it on himself to get trained completely and authentically.”

According to Vivek, the film Prince is an out-and-out rollercoaster ride that will leave the viewers completely enthralled. “It’s a crazy entertainer. This is a film where you have this character who can do anything. He can steal anything from anywhere and get away with it. He is brilliant, he is super-fast, he’s really sharp and smart, and his brain is just something phenomenal!”

Vivek, in his new action avatar, hits our theatres on March 26th when the film releases.
