The original starred Kerala star Prithviraj and was one of the biggest hits of 2009. The Hindi remake will be directed by Rohit Shetty, who made
Golmaal. Says Rohit: “I have seen
Puthiya Mukham three times. Ajay and I have been wanting to do a hardcore action film for the last three years.”
"We share a good working relationship," Rohit said, "We are both professionals on the sets and believe in each others caliber and respect it. I think that has worked for us."
The last action film Rohit made was
Zameen. Incidentally, Rohit is the son of the stunt master Shetty, who old timers will remember, and he has also worked under Ajay's father Veeru Devgun, who was also a stunt master.
So, will Ajay also go the six-pack way of other stars? Rohit says: "Ajay is already an action hero and doesn’t need six-pack abs to prove that." The actress for the movie has not yet been picked, Rohit said.
When asked if he had thought of casting the obvious woman, Ajay's wife
Kajol, he said that he would love to cast her, but it would have to wait for the right script.
We also asked Rohit about his other film,
Golmaal 3. When asked what the cast was for that film, he said: "
Golmaal 3 has Ajay Devgn,
Kareena Kapoor, Mithun Chakravarthy, Ratna Pathak,
Arshad Warsi,
Shreyas Talpade,
Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu and Johnny Lever."
