Deepika and Ranbir first met in mid-2007 when they were both seeing other people. They got close during the  filming of Bachna Ae Haseeno in Australia later the same year and made their relationship official in February 2008. Young, beautiful, talented and in-demand, they were Bollywood’s ‘it’ couple. Recently, Ranbir Kapoor has been linked to Katrina Kaif. The closeness between the two co-stars has been blamed for the split but the split has been in the making for a long time.

A source tells us, “Ranbir Kapoor is hot, cute and charming, and women love him. He knows that and can’t help flirting with attractive women like Nandita Mahtani and others. Ranbir has had a thing for older women. He isn’t discreet about getting close to other women. Common friends of the couple carried these stories to Deepika, and she confronted Ranbir. That is when Ranbir felt suffocated, that she was nagging him and she should just let him be. He wanted space, which surprised Deepika.’

The source adds, ‘Deepika has invested a lot in this relationship. She takes time out to meet him and be with him and also flew down from London for a day when Ranbir had a family crisis. Ranbir wasn’t living up to her expectations. She was disappointed with him. Then she went to the sets of Rajneeti in Bhopal when she heard about Ranbir and Katrina’s friendship. The two came back, attended a fashion show together, but then had a public fight at designer Shabina Khan’s birthday party. They have hardly spoken since then. The pressure of their careers has taken a toll on their relationship. Ranbir has the world at his feet and Deepika was his serious girlfriend, but she wasn’t ‘someone special’ to him. The passion in their affair had fizzled out.’

It will be interesting to see whether these two will get back or will move on to new people sooner or later.
