EMI revolves around Ryan (Arjun Rampal) whose forever in debt and his girlfriend nancy (Malaika Arora) fancies the high-life adding to his debts. Prerana's (Urmila Matondkar) husband has committed suicide and the reason for her loan is complicated. Kulbushan Kharbanda takes a loan to fund his son's foreign education. Shilpa and Anil Sharma (Neha Uberoi and Ashish Chowdhry) take a loan for their marriage and honeymoon. They don't pay their EMIs in time so Sattar Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) steps in to recover the bank's money and everyone's life changes for the better in true Hindi movie style.
Sanjay Dutt is back in form and his character is like Munnabhai. No one could have played this character better than him. He is effortless as the good hearted Sattar Bhai. Finally a good performance after duds like Dus Kahaaniyaan and Kidnap. Everyone will love him.
Arjun is effortlessly suave and cool and as delectable as dark chocolate. He looks gorgeous, sexy makes you laugh and is perfectly cast as the DJ who loves all the material pleasures of life. Malaika is her usual sexy self and her dialogue delivery is just like the way she comments on reality shows. Urmila, Ashish and Neha are good in their places. Joshi who plays Sattar's right hand man Decent is brilliant, especially in the drunken scene.
The music is alright. Chori Chori and Pehli Mulaqaat are catchy tracks.
Director Saurabh R kabra makes a confident debut with this genuinely entertaining flick. The audience clapped and whisted everytime Sanjay and Arjun were on screen. The best thing is that the humour is genuine and dialogue based, not slapstick. Every second dialogue is funny. People will identify with the constant calls that banks make to persuade people to take loans and even the pirated DVD scene in the beginning. So the movie has been well researched and the concept is original. The script has shades of Lage Raho Munnabhai.
Memorable scenes include the one where Arjun cons Sanjay and later teaches him to be a thorough gentleman to impress Urmila. Then the scene where Joshi gets drunk while speaking to Dutt is very good along with Urmila and Sanjay's date.
The movie is a breezy entertainer and you won't get bored at all. It is a welcome change from all the slapstick mindless comedies we have been subjected to. Go watch it for Arjun and Sanjay and have a good laugh. It's total timepass!
