In 2006, IIFA went to the Indian Film Industry's home away from home - mystical Dubai. Dubai, with its old world charm and new age dynamism played host to the 3 day IIFA Weekend and its many events, which saw a multi-cultural audience of over 10,000 people from countries such as India, Singapore, Malayasia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, The Netherlands, the Reunion Islands, Mauritius and the UAE. The weekend began with the IIFA Inaugural Press Conference and the IIFA World Premiere of Jagmohan Mundra's 'Provoked'. It also hosted a unique IIFA Foundation Fashion Extravaganza as the event to raise funds for the IIFA Foundation. Dubai Studio City witnessed a soft launch as the top film makers of Indian Cinema were given a brief presentation on the property during a FAM trip. Dubai as a city for shooting their films was promoted as a destination.

IIFA flew down the renowned Hollywood producer director Ashok Amritraj, Chairman of Hyde Park entertainment - Los Angeles to host a workshop to hone Dubai's promising local talent.

Trivia:
This spectacular IIFA Weekend in Dubai created a benchmark in the world of Live events, as it won the award for the Best International Global Event for South Asia in 2006.
